Collins Bay Yacht Club hosted the 2025 EYC regatta, with 34 boats turning out from both sides of the lake. Four stalwarts from KYC sailed the long trek to CBYC on Wednesday in about 10 knots of breeze. Winds were slow getting going in the late mornings, but eventually filled in from the South each day at around 7-10 knots. On Thursday, the Swiftsure Vessel Support distance race started at the mouth of the bay, heading out around marks K8 and K9, around Pigeon Island, and back to the finish. The J92 Jn, skippered by Bill Reid and Mike Hull, started at the pin end but was OCS at the start and finished the race 15 minutes in front of the J30 Blaze only to find out on shore that we were over early. Peter Van Rossem in Jonathon Livingston Seagull fared better, sailing furthest west into the right corner along Amherst Island to take advantage of the better winds and winning his Division and the Overall trophy… an unusual feat for a Shark in lighter winds. Steve Harrison finished 9th in division in the Olsen 30 Fast Forward.

Course racing across five Divisions featured on Friday and Saturday, with three races Friday and two on Saturday. Jn sailed aggressive starts, winning the pin in every start and getting in front early as scratch boat, which helped keep us out of the melee at mark roundings. Finishes of 1-2-1-1-1 were good enough to win Division 1. Fast Forward finished 8th in Division 1 with 7-9-9-4-7 . JLS finished 2-5-7-2-3 for 3rd in Division 3. John Vines and Erika decided to forego Selene's spinnaker and joined the fleet of five white sail boats in Division 5 for the Friday and Saturday racing. Despite the relative speeds, indicated by the handicaps, the racing was very competitive, boat on boat, and the leaders occasionally finished in the five races within seconds  of one another. There was also lots of good banter between the crews. and a chance to meet and race against crews from other clubs . Selene had finishes of 1-3-3-3-3 for a 3rd place finish in White sail Division 5.

Well done to Collins Bay Yacht Club for putting on a great regatta with good food and fun and to all the sponsors, especially Mount Gay Rum, who gave us hats. I like my Mount Gay Rum… Next year EYC is being held in Belleville. Please plan to go as it is a fun regatta.
