KYC sailors win the Steerer’s Regatta!

This past weekend, the annual Steerer’s and Four Sister’s Regattas were held back to back at the Port Credit Yacht Club in Mississauga.  KYC was represented by three 420 teams coached by Jonah and Owen and 2 optimist sailors coached by Boady

On July 17-18, 361 youth sailors competed at the Steerer’s youth competition.  On Thursday, our Kingston sailors were excited to head out and race in the building north breeze.  Unfortunately they were kept onshore  as the systems rolling through kept augmenting the wind.  On Friday, racers competed in light breeze conditions.  Three races were completed on all the courses.  The Powick sisters sailed consistently with a 2, 1, 4  finish to claim top spot out of the 67 Club 420s.  Annabelle/Georgia as well as Julia/Danylo improved steadfastly in each 420 race.  Annie Keilty earned an impressive 4th in one of the green fleet optimist races while Jackson did well finishing in the middle of the championship fleet pack.

On July 19-20, 240 sailors hit the water for the Four Sisters Regatta.  Conditions for this event were challenging with light breeze, heavy chop and very tricky current.  Three races were completed on Saturday in the Club 420 Spinnaker division, while 4 races were counted for the Optimists.  On Sunday, many races were started and abandoned due to fickle breeze and wind direction. In fact, the breeze went around in a full 360 degrees!  In the end N/A was displayed and as Murphy’s Law would have it, a nice breeze finally came in from the North!
