Slow Poker Sailing Rally - many prizes to be won!
$50 per boat

  • 2:15pm - lighting of fire by Ryan Heath of Kingston Fire and Rescue (Brig alumni), ceremonial pair of socks burned

Similar to the "Poker Run", sailing vessels - of all types -  sail a designated  course. At each mark there will be a boat with a volunteer holding out a bucket on a pole. Inside the bucket will be floating key rings and your challenge will be to collect ONE key ring from each mark per rounding. Nets are provided for when key rings need to be fished out of the water! There will be a raffle for an assortment of prizes during the evening festivities (see below). More details on the course to be sailed are provided at the Sailors’ Briefing.

Evening Festivities - Bonfire on the beach and Oysters!
$30 per person

  • 5pm - bonfire roaring, games, music starts
  • 5:30pm Oyster Bar and BBQ opens
  • 6pm Prize ceremony
  • 7pm Shanty sing-a-long

There will be PEI oysters and BBQ served, and (weather permitting) a fire pit on the beach. You are also encouraged to bring a pair of new socks to donate to Home Base Housing.

You can attend the evening events even if you don't participate in the Rally!

The St Lawrence II, several wooden boats from the Thousand Islands Boat Museum, as well as the Fire Boat will be available for tour.

What is a Sock Burner?
What in the hootenanny is a sockburner you ask?  It is a symbolic welcoming of the sailing season by "burning" of the winterworn socks that are no longer needed now that the warm weather is upon us.

Home Based Housing
Home Base Housing is one of the largest nonprofits in Kingston doing work to provide support and services for adults and youth. Right now, Home Base Housing is in the process of building a youth residence in Kingston that will have over 30 supportive apartments for vulnerable youth. Their drop-in centre "One Roof" which provides counselling and employment and partnership services is already in operation. The residence and One Roof will be on the same site. KYC's Toni Cochand Angus is a member of the Board of Directors for Home Base and will be collecting members' donations of new socks.
