| August 13-14: Weekend Away at Jemmett's
Please join us at Jemmett's Landing for a very informal weekend away. Our property is in great shape, firewood awaits for the campfire, and the water is wonderfully warm to swim and soak. Whether by road or by water, meet up at Jemmett's Landing on Saturday 13 August for good company, and a Pot Luck Dinner. Pitch a tent and camp if you wish. We will have a tender available should you prefer to be at a mooring ball. Let's fill the dock with member boats and spin a tale or two. Hope to see you there!
Peter, Ze and Buzz| August 19 - 21: 2016 Jazz Cruise Weekend
This year’s “cruise or drive” tour to Picton for the Jazz Festival features a Saturday night show at the Regent Theatre with wide audience appeal. This has been a popular cruisers event for the last 8 years and once again KYC members have “first call” on a block of excellent seats for the August 20th show featuring Canadian vocalist Jackie Richardson with pianist Joe Sealy. For more information visit www.pecjazz.org (under “Performers”)
There’s lots to do in the Picton area – so it’s not just about the jazz. We will hold our traditional BYO dinner on Saturday night above Books & Company and Miss Lily’s Café. Our Regent Theatre tickets are $40 each and the pre-show dinner is expected to be about $30 all in! (more on the dinner later). You are welcome to participate in one or both events. If you need overnight accommodation, check the Picton Harbour Inn – and be close by to join the cruisers for happy hour!
Jazz concert tickets for August 20th can be reserved right now at $40 each, by contacting the office at KYC manager@kingstonyachtclub.ca. John Kitney will be arranging dockage for those that are interested, along with the dinner arrangements on Saturday night. We are also looking into a special Friday night option with a Festival Players dinner-theatre production at Rosehall Run winery for “A Splinter in the Heart” (light dinner, show ticket and return taxi transport to Picton Harbour, all-in for $60 each). For show information visit www.festivalplayers.ca Phone (613-548-3052) or email manager@kingstonyachtclub.ca to secure your Jazz tickets on a “first-to-call” basis and please copy (cc) your message to kitneyj@kingston.net for contact about other weekend events. Your $40 jazz show tickets will be charged to your KYC account.| August 18: Chamber "After Hours" at KYC
Join the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce at our club for their first "Summer Mix n' Mingle", 4:30-6:30pm. Come out and reacquaint with business connections and get to know the Chamber!
| August 20: Poker Run
In an effort to expose our Club a bit further and create more emphasis on Boat Safety and water awareness we are looking to become a bit more involved with the Annual Poker Run which is held this year on August 20th and starts in Downtown Kingston. We are aware this is something a bit more out of the norm for our Club. Their event is under new management and they are looking to foster some long lasting relationships with local businesses. Looking forward, they are potentially willing to support (with funds) some of our sailing programs here at the Club (JS, ABLE Sail). For this year, we have agreed to be one of their locations for GAS, and in return they are asking for some of our Boats to be positioned up from the start line (as markers). We think this potentially could grow into a fabulous relationship, however we are taking small steps this year in order to "test the water". We are looking for 5 members to either volunteer a few hours in the morning of the 20th, in either your boat or in one of our Sharks to assist in this new venture.
If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Greg at manager@kingstonyachtclub.com.| August 20: the LAST HIP SHOW
We will be organizing a HIP SHOW at KYC on Aug 20th! Please come out and be part of their final Show! More details will follow in the upcoming newsletter as well as in the Clubhouse!

| Beer of the Week
Wag the Wolf - from Beau's is a weissbier (wheat beer) that is generously "late - addition" hopped with organic New Zealand varieties to provide abundant aromas of banana, clove, citrus, papaya and mango. Expert citrus, tropical fruit and spice flavours, as well as pleasant maltiness and lively carbonation. Finishes with a restrained bitterness and slight dryness.
Enjoy the Wolf!
| Wine of the Month
Gerard Bertrand 2013 Languedoc is a well balanced, dry, bright red wine produced from two fantastic grape varietals – Syrah and Grenache. These grapes alone commonly make for delicious wines because of the terroirs they thrive in. The Languedoc province throughout the South of France is one of the largest wine growing regions in the world. Soil in the region contains abundant limestone and gravel, along with an array of shrubbery that over many thousands of years has enriched the soil with fragrance. Because it’s so large, Languedoc provides a variety of terroirs that allow for unending combinations and concentrations of different varietals.

| A Rio update from the Crothers
To follow Rob Crother's results visit https://goo.gl/IGHPp5
Well today was both successful and painful for Canadian Rowing fans in Rio. The M4X were able to come second in their B Final but that hurt as they are much better than that. The W8+ advanced to the A Final on Saturday and both the M4- (11:27 am), W1X (semi final10:10 am) and LW2X (10:32 am) are in A Finals tomorrow. This is what all the work has been about and we have a shot at the podium for some of our athletes.
The Boyds have arrived and we're last seen in the line up for diner. We have met and keep on meeting lots of interesting people from far and wide. It is tiring to fight traffic and walk for kms to sit in the sun and scream like mad but most nights we go to bed early. Last night was an exception with a late dinner at a very swanky boutique hotel on a hill in Santa Teresa. We enjoyed an afternoon stroll in the Botanical Gardens as a respite from the insane traffic and disorienting street layout.
Did you know (you probably did) that the moon is in the northern sky when you are in the southern hemisphere?
