Special announcements

| Sailing

As the sailing season draws to a close, we need to ask all Members who have a Boat that is DRY MOORED at the Club to remove it from the property. We would appreciate all vessels to be gone by Sunday, October 22nd, as haulout will be on the following weekend.

 

| Temporary Club Closing

As the season begins to wind down, we are reviewing the calander and scheduling some much needed Clubhouse projects that need to happen before Brad leaves for warmer weather. The timing unfortunately means we will need to close the Restaurant and Bar during the week of November 6th as the water will need to be shut off to perform maintenance. There will be no bar, kitchen, or washroom services during this time as we will be upgrading part of the kitchen floor and walls that are in dire need of repair. This project is long overdue and is essential to happen before we experience the Christmas Season. During this time we will also do a quick renovation of the men's washroom as well as review a sewer issue that has been causing us problems all season.

| OCTOBER 14: Sail A Radio Controlled Model Yacht


RACING OVER FOR THIS YEAR?
Not if you are a model yacht sailor. We will still be racing well into the Fall.

Come out to the breakwater on Saturday, October 14th at 2:00 pm and experience the exciting sport of radio controlled sailing.
We will have high performance International One Meter yachts for you to sail, and plenty of helpful advice.
Old and new members all welcome, juniors too.
Alternate date of Sunday, October 15th in case of bad weather.

PLEASE NOTE: Come rain or shine we will be at the club with our model yachts at 2:00 pm. - either out on the breakwater, or in the clubhouse.

| Wine of the Month

This is a great wine with a fun label that looks like a poster that would be nailed to a tree in the Wild West, complete with the description "Carefully Matured in American Oak." Zinfandel may be America's heritage wine grape, but guess what? This red comes from Italy, specifically the southern region of Puglia, where zinfandel normally goes by a less popular synonym, "primitivo." This is smooth, full-bodied and accessible, with plump stewed fruit, blueberry and raisin flavours on a rounded, sweet core infused with baking spices and toasted coconut. Perfect with most past dishes, or flamed grilled meats or try it with this weeks meatball sub special!

| CRUISING FLEET CO-CAPTAIN(S) NEEDED!

Please consider volunteering for your KYC and become a Cruising Fleet Co-Captain. Peter Fedora is stepping down and this mature program requires new leadership. This is a wonderful opportunity to continue to grow this program, involve new members and inject your ideas and energy. The KYC Cruising Fleet is an active, experienced group who enjoy a wide variety of interests and local activities, usually accessible by both land and water. The role includes participation in the KYC Sailing Committee, as a representative of the cruising fleet. This committee typically meets once a month during the off season. Many thanks to Peter for his contributions to the Cruising fleet and KYC. If you are interested in helping out, contact Peter ) or Ken Martin . We hope to hear from you, soon!

 

| BREAKAWAY SUCCESS!

Hugh McGugan and his crew (including a QST team member) achieved a lot of success this year racing Breakaway J, a J/80. There away regatta results this summer included: NOD Regatta at NSC: 1, 1, 1, 1, 2 (1st overall in fleet of 5, sailed in a mixture of light and heavy winds... lot of planing!) J-Fest (Hans Fogh Memorial J/80 Lake Ontario Championship trophy) at ABYC: 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2 (1st overall in fleet of 10, sailed in light wind on 1st day and 15 kts the 2nd day).
 

| Shark Sails Needed

Donations of Shark sails for our Community Club fleet are appreciated. Community Club boats have provided sailing in 2017 for::

  • Single and Family members
  • Start Keelboat Sailing Sail Canada courses
  • Junior Sailing School 'Adventure Sailing'
  • Mentoring offered by volunteer Skippers
  • Queens Sailing Team

| CHASE RACE RESULTS & ABLE SAIL FUNDRAISER

Last Saturday, we had a most excellent Chase Race. It was warm & sunny in 15 kts from the North. With 11 competitors, the top 5 places were 1st Cariad, 2nd Breakaway J, 3rd Force 10, 4th Jammin, 5th Ramble On. Also finishing (in alphabetical order) were: Cara Mia V, Farr 30, Lucky Varmint, Supra, Valkyr 2, White Star.

The newly minted Able Sail Cup was presented to Melodie Gummer and the crew of Cariad, along with some cool t-shirts. Charitable donations to the "bribe bucket" and 80/20 draw raised almost $500 for Able Sail Kingston. Mary Wilson re-contributed her draw winnings. Many thanks to Heidi Colburn for being on deck to handle the fund raising and award presentation aspects of the event.
 

| NEW PHRF 1 FLEET CAPTAIN

After many years of contribution to KYC racing and the club, Rob Colwell is stepping down as PHRF 1 co-captain. Many thanks, Rob! Steve Harrison is picking up the torch as new fleet captain. If you have feedback/ideas related to our racing program, please let Steve or Peter Kraszewski (also fleet co-captain) know. They are your reps on the KYC Sailing Committee, which will be meeting during the off season, looking for ways to improve the program for 2018.
