Inside the Drama: America's Cup 2013

Saturday July 26th 7:30PM
Kingston Yacht Club

The Marine Museum presents:
A talk with Steve Killing, New Zealand Design Team Member.

Emirates Team New Zealand seemed to be unbeatable in the 2013 America’s Cup and yet Oracle managed to pull ahead to victory. Steve Killing will be sharing his stories and photos of  this event as a member of the New Zealand design team. The connection between his design of Fred Eaton’s Toronto-based C-Class catamaran and the America’s Cup is a fascinating story of being in the right place at the right time.

$20 per person, to reserve contact Jana Clark 613-542-2261

Don't forget about the New Age of Sail Outdoor Exhibition!

Partridge Bowl BBQ Sign Up!

Are you coming to the Partridge Bowl on Tomorrow? Don't forget to sign up for the annual BBQ held after the race at Jemmett's.

This year we are offering burgers, sausages, chicken and veggie burgers along with various salads and all the fixings!

Only $22 including taxes and gratuities.
Kids eat for $10!

RSVP with James Walton: bar@kingstonyachtclub.ca

Please include the number in your party, dietary restrictions or meal choice inclinations (so we have a rough idea of what to pack!).

More about the race:

The Annual Club Cruise to Jemmett's Landing is July 19th.
The cruise is centred on the race for the Partridge Bowl.

A Le Mans start coupled with pursuit race format means that the first racer to arrive at the property is the winner.
It's always an exciting event and, then, there's the party that follows...

Staff will be on-site to cook,
the trophy will be suitably filled and shared.

This special event will require that the dock and the mooring balls
be available for participants: rafting will be necessary.
Others are asked to leave the dock by noon on Saturday, July 19.

It should again be available for general usage
for the evening and night of July 20.

Come and take part in the Cruise!

Thank you!

To all those workers, volunteers and helping bodies... for the 2014 Eastern Ontario Shark Championship Regatta.

Ross Cameron, Peter Van Rossem, Niilo Avarmaa, Mary Wilson, Joanne Miller, Sheila Murphy,  Barbara James, Sean Marshall, Jonathan Standley, Geoff Webster, Joan & Peter Kraszewski, Alevia & Rob Colwell, Myra Davidson, Mabel Corlett, Matt Fair, Jim Beatson, Don Ruddy, Peter French, Teresa Garrahan, Megan Willoughby, John Vines, Allan Gibbons, Amelia Sloan, Angela Smith.

KYC staff, Brett, James, Alison and their teams of Cooks, Servers and Bartenders...

Hats off to all of us for championing yet another truly successful regatta. Kudos everyone!!

Many jobs big and small need attention to pull this together each year. Some tasks get done quietly and some are out there for the sailors to see, but without all of these tasks being completed, the success of a regatta can be jeopardized.

Site management, administrative organization, registration, meals, marks, race direction and scoring, social events and PR; are all important and necessary parts of the weekend. Many of you went out of your way to ensure the success of these events and the quality of the regatta for it's participants. I appreciate those who reminded me of tasks that might have been missed at the time and helped complete the tasks on time.

We have some new names on our list this year and although I was not able to use all who came forward, I wish to thank you and let you know “I have your number” and you will get a notice when the next event comes up.

Thank you all again for the time, effort and attention you all put into the success of this regatta. I again enjoyed chairing this event and hope that some of you might join us again next year for the KYC hosted Shark regatta. Without people like yourselves, regattas would not take place.

-Lana Butler, Regatta Chair
