SGM - Results
I would like to extend my appreciation to all members who came out to participate inthe SGM this past Sunday. We received some valuable feedback and comments during the discussion for each motion.
In the end, the motion to increase fees to help bolster our Capital Improvement fund was approved with a good majority, and the motion to enact an Entrance Fee was narrowly defeated.I think members can now be significantly more optimistic about the future of KYC. We can now look to the future and know we will be able to tackle the significant projects that we know are waiting for our attention.

Racing Awards Nominations time!
As we approach the end of the summer racing season, it's time to start looking forward toward our annual Awards Night dinner on November 8th.
Awards categories include (but are not limited to):Watson Cup – Awarded to an individual seen as the best crew of the year
Abernethy Cup – Awarded to the best overall complete crew, not necessarily based on results
Roger Tattersall Shotgun Trophy – Awarded to the person or crew perceived to have run the best race(s) or otherwise showed exemplary performance of duty
The Whig Standard Bowl – Awarded to a skipper who has shown great improvement in their racing performance.
Cameron Rock Award – Awarded to a yacht or person known to have run aground, usually during a race but exceptions can be made.
Henry Award – Wrapped the spinnaker around a mark? Hit the committee boat? Go for a pre-race swim? Awarded for Obscure use of sailing skills.
Hour Glass Award – Awarded for spectacular use of Flying Sails, but probably self explanatory. Who did it best (worst?)
Scott Plaque – Awarded for overall involvement and contribution to the entire racing programme
KYC Achievement and Leadership Award - Presented to members who have achieved something important outside the club, probably more than once
Canada I Award – Our most prestigious award – for long, high level contribution to the KYC programme and to sailing itself.

Special awards nominations can be submitted via email to office@kingstonyachtclub.ca, or in person to the KYC office.
Deadline to submit is October 21st.
Winter Storage and Haulout
Attention mooring holders and boat owners:
If you are interested in winter storage here at KYC and have not informed us either through your mooring application form or by contacting us please let us know as soon as possible your intent to store your boat in the yard.
If you are unsure whether you are on the winter storage list please contact us to confirm.

Corinthian Fund Art Night
Art on Display: Oct 23-25
Meet the Artist: Oct 24 4-8PM
The membership and their guests are invited to view and purchase artwork that will be on display from October 23rd to 25th in the clubhouse .
A percentage of the sales with go toward supporting the
KYC Corinthian Fund .
Friday the 24th will be a fun get together with a Meet the Artist, Patti Emmerson, between 4PM and 8PM. Mark your calendar and come down to the club!
Racing Update
The September weeknight series winners are:
PHRF 1: Touch of Class (1st), Cara Mia (2nd), Force 10 (3rd)
PHRF 2: Selene (1st), Mindemoya (2nd), Mad Carew (3rd)
Sharks: Dartos (1st), JLS (2nd), Cariad (3rd)Fleet championships are still up for grabs!
The last weekend event is the Chase Race is this Saturday Oct 4, skippers meeting at 9:30 am. Starting sequence instructions & start time offsets for individual PHRF rating ranges are included in the Sailors' Handbook, which is available here.The Sailing Committee will be meeting in on Oct 7 to work on improvements for next year. Please share your
views with your fleet captains and members of sailing committee.

Homecomers Regatta at Niagara On The Lake
The last regatta of the Year for Sharks finished up this past weekend where two of our KYC Boats represented KYC away from home.Winds Saturday were light with a long postponement for the Skippers of 22 boats while waiting for decent wind. Richard Hinterhoeller (the PRO) held off for most of the day and realized that things were not going to get any better so started a race in about 5 -6 knots of breeze.
Jonathan Livingston Seagull sailed by Robin Wynne-Edwards, John Adams and Peter Van Rossem managed a great pin end start and was able to cross the fleet to win the first race.
The next day was more of the same with a postponement ashore for 1 hour when all boats were signaled to go racing. Shadfly, sailed by Steve Raddon, Julian Walker and Chrystal Wilson, showed consistent results for the day finishing third overall in competitive fleet. Congratulations to Shadfly!
On another note, Jonathan Livingston Seagull managed to clench Shark of the Year for 2014. Shark of the year is given to the boat who has competed in at least 5 counter regattas that have the lowest score. JLS was First in the US Shark Nationals, First at our own Kingston Eastern Champs, Second in the World Championships, Fourth at Golden Horseshoe and finally sixth in Homecomers earning them the honor of Shark Of The Year.

Fall/Winter Hours
The Office will now hold variable hours on Mondays. Please call ahead to ensure service. Normal operating hours will be Tuesday-Friday 9-5.
Gas Dock hours will be 9am - 5pm, 7 days a week. During the week members are encouraged to make appointments for the Gas Dock as our Yard Staff may called away for other duties at times.
You may call the Gas Dock directly at 613-547-5844 or the main office to confirm.
Food and Beverage Hours:The bar will be open Tuesday and Wednesday 4-9pm.
KYC will be serving lunch and dinner on Thursday and Friday, from Noon-8pm and the bar will be open until 9pm.
Brunch will be available from 10am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday with dinner served from 3-8pm on the weekend.
Food and Beverage Update
Our kitchen staff is putting together a scumptious new menu featuring old favourites and some exciting new options to mark the changing of seasons. The new menu will be launching on October 16th, so stay tuned to the Knotmeter for more details! As always, our bar staff will continue to serve your favourite drinks with a smile.
We are also working on planning the fall TGIF's. If you have an idea for a TGIF or have a group that would like to host one, please contact James at bar@kingstonyachtclub.ca
Beau's Fall Seasonal, the Night Marzen Oktoberfest style Lager is here. Your F&B staff plan to bring in a variety of new beers over the fall, so stay tuned to the Knotmeter for updates.

Fall Cork concluded with many KYC sailors doing very well
Robert Davis clinched the Laser class not only winning the event but the Laser District 3 championships as well.
A week earlier Paul Davis won the Soling North American Championships sailing with Peter and Will Hall from RstLYC
They topped a very competitive fleet not needing to sail the last race to secure the series title

Alcohol Outside Licensed Areas
Signs have been posted at the main entrance and on the gate at the west end of the front porch to identify the limits of our licensed area. The entrance driveway, the beach and the break wall are not licensed. Please refrain from taking alcohol out of the licensed area.
