Time for a Frostbite Race!

| Updates from the General Manager

Dinghy Removal Deadline

The deadline has arrived. Please remove all dinghies from the breakwall and yard by Monday, October, 19th to make way for cradles and haul out. Please speak with Tristan if you need to make alternate storage arrangements or if you would like to have KYC Staff move your boat for you (yard fees will apply if we don't hear from you).

KYC Community Sailing Club

With 40 registered skippers this year, it is clear that our KYC Community Sailing Club is an excellent gateway into the world of sailing in Kingston. Our Community Club boats have been well sailed by single & family members and new adult learn to sail participants. A huge thank you to Peter and Craig for your hard word. The Community Sailing Club is now seeking any donations of Shark sails. Jessie also needs a Jib if you know of one for a C&C 24. Please contact Peter French community@kingstonyachtclub.ca or at 613-650-1614 .

KYC AGM - Thursday, November 26th, 2020

The official Notice of Meeting, along with Board of Director nomination forms, have been posted in the 2020 AGM Folder within the Members Area of the KYC Webpage. This is where you will find all documents for this year's AGM as they become available.

Due to Covid-19 and the pandemic, the AGM will be hosted online using the Zoom Webinar platform. The IT/IM Committee is still working through the logistics but you will be asked to register in advance for the meeting. We will also be having a Zoom based mock-AGM to work out the bugs in the virtual voting world and to give everyone a chance to practice zoom-ing. We will send out the link next week inviting you to join in on the test fun run.

Haul Out

Haul out is scheduled for Saturday October 31st and Sunday November 1st. The winter storage plan has been posted on the webpage. We will also be in need of volunteer work crews to tidy up our well-used site. Please contact Daniel if you would like to volunteer. Tasks and times will be made available asap.

Skeleton Park: Autumn Fyre

4.5% ABV

It's late August, and while most Canadians are busy squeezing the most from our waning summer season, our brewmaster is hard at work crafting our next seasonal release for the cooler months ahead.

Many of our fans have fond memories of this Grätzer-style ale, and we've had many requests to bring this brew back. So, by popular demand, we're pleased to announce that our Autumn Fyre will be returning in mid-September 2020.
Once popular in Upper Canada, Grätzer-style ales like this vanished after prohibition.
Oak-smoked wheat gives our Autumn Fyre its distinct fall flavour.

Grätzer-style ales date back to the 15th century, when the Prussian Empire controlled parts of Europe. A version of the style became popular in Upper Canada when small breweries began roasting their malt over oak fires.Prohibition put an end to craft beer production in Ontario, and Grätzer vanished, never to be brewed again in these parts... until we resuscitated the recipe for the enjoyment of modern beer lovers. Rejoice!

| Sailing Update

Taking into consideration current provincial & local health unit guidance related to COVID-19, it's been decided that we will proceed with the last 2 Frostbite Series races (this Sunday Oct 18 and 25), as per the published SIs, but with a Skipper Meeting limited to skippers only and firm requirement that social distancing be observed on shore and masks be worn on the boat by all crew members that aren't an immediate household. The courses and start times will be set in the Skippers Meeting. Stay warm & dry & safe!
