CANADIAN POWER SQUADRON VHF RADIO COURSE
*Open to Non-Members*

This Maritime Radio course is to option a certificate to operate a marine VHF radio. The course will be conducted in-person at KYC on three evenings. Classes will take place on April 24 and April 25 and the exam will take place on May 1. *Please note that KYC members pay regular price, the discounted member price listed is for CPS members

ONTARIO SAILING OFFSHORE PERSONAL SURVIVAL COURSE
*Open to Non-Members, Early Registration for KYC Members*

The Sail Canada Offshore Personal Survival Course is a World Sailing approved course that is suitable for experiences sailors who participate in distance and offshore races/passages. This course fulfills the certification requirements of Category 3 racing for races such as the Susan Hood, Lake Ontario 300, Race to Kingston, and LYRA Feeder Races.

Training takes place over two days and includes both classroom learning at KYC and practical sessions at a local pool. Topics include safety equipment, storm sails, weather forecasts, heavy weather, man overboard, emergency signals, communications, and inflating and using lifejackets and life rafts.

SMALL COMMERCIAL VESSEL OPERATOR AND CREW TRAINING
*Open to Non-Members*

Mitch Miller, of Miller Marine Training, is a Transport Canada approved Marine Safety Instructor and can provide the necessary certifications for those operating a commercial vessel. This Spring, Marine Miller Training will run a complement of courses suitable for operators of commercial vessels who fit the following criteria:

  • Up to 5 gross tonnage engaged on a near coastal, class 2, or a sheltered waters voyage (other than tugs and fishing vessels).
  • For fishing vessels up to 15 gross tonnage or 12 meters overall length engaged on a near coastal, class 2 (including an inland voyage on Lake Superior or Lake Huron) or a sheltered waters voyage. 
  • For crew members of non-pleasure vessels of not more than 150 gross tonnage operating not more than 25 nautical miles from shore
